4AM Early Morning Wake Ups

15 May

Back in June of last year and up to January I have been waking up at 4am. And I used to love it. Then doctoral classes kept me up until 10-11pm so these early wake ups (which I absolutely love), stopped happening.

This week I have been training myself to go back to waking up at 4AM. My husband and I are usually out of the door at 6:30 so I have two and a half uninterrupted hours to do the things I enjoy. Coffee, journal, read for inspiration, meditate – all that is done in the morning.

Have a great day, everyone!

4 AM is it

6 Jan

Good morning! 4AM wake ups are in order. After “slacking off” and waking up later during my winter break, I need to get back into the swing of things.

Today: up at 4, coffee started brewing, don’t feel tired, go over the agenda, write in my journal, be grateful, spend time with my animals, read WordPress, have my oatmeal.

Next – shower, make the bed, get dressed.

Out the door my 6, ready to take on the world.
Have a great day, everyone!

Thank you…

29 Oct

Thank you for this new day. Thank you for this beautiful time of year. Thank you for the crispness of the air, gorgeous sights, fun activities, quiet reflection and contemplation. Thank you for the motivation to keep me going, and sometimes, when there is no motivation left, self-discipline. Thank you for every opportunity that comes my way. Thank you for all the life lessons, however unpleasant they may be. Acceptance, mindfulness, gratitude, creativity, reflection.

A Week of Outfits

14 Sep

Organized to a tee – trying out a new system where I put my week of outfits the weekend before. After checking the weather and my calendar, I arrange the outfits from Monday to Friday. Last week was the first week I tried this system. The verdict: I love it. I don’t have to think in the morning! 🙂

Hello, lovely fall

14 Sep

Whenever people ask me what my favorite season is, I usually reply that it’s fall.

There are so many things that are beautiful about fall. The crispness of the air, the sounds of birds in the morning, the color of turning leaves, the coziness of fall evenings, the feeling of new beginnings, the softness of fall clothing. Needless to say, I just love fall…

School has officially started last week – my full time in a public school and my part time at the university. Although the week included some very minor difficulties, in general it was an amazing week. I was so busy yet made time for myself- read, meditated, went to So Shim Sa, went to the gym, wrote, and went for a few jogs around the neighborhood.

Waking up at 4AM every day has been amazing. I am planning to continue although my husband thinks I am insane to be up at such hour. As I shared this with my good friend this week, I feel such vitality, playfulness, extraordinary motivation, fearlessness, and gratitude. I exercise every morning by alternating strength workouts with jogging, I strategize and plan my day. I read and write. I listen to lectures and motivational CDs from Success magazine. By 6 o’clock, I have accomplished more things than some people do in half a day.

During my early morning routines, I have made the following, very honest, observations:

1. Time is valuable and I hate wasting it.

2. When my husband streams endless episodes of some show, it drives me insane.

3. I tend to look down on people that are a) unmotivated, b) lead an unhealthy life style, c) chronic complainers, and d) “I can’t do that”-ers. Oh and e) ungrateful.

4. I get tired sometime by 6pm…

5. I do not miss being on Facebook. In fact, I am proud that I don’t have a FB account.

6. I am a sucker for motivational readings and audio. Especially from Success magazine.

7. My writing is terrible but it doesn’t bother me. I am here to reflect not get a Pulitzer prize.

8. As this new person has emerged, my friends started looking at my newly found levels of motivation and energy with awe, and a little bit of concern. I wonder why…

9. I cannot help feeling a sense of pride.

10. After recording how I am feeling after I started waking up super early, I have observed that I feel: accomplished, vital, refreshed, productive, creative, grateful, fulfilled, strong, and uplifted.

Thank you for reading. Please send positive energy so I could continue my quest to being super-motivated.

Five Things to Be Grateful For

6 Sep

Good morning. I hope everyone who stops by today is well.

Here are my five things that I am grateful for at this moment:

1. Cool, fresh air and a sky full of stars. As I left the house at 4:30am for my morning workout, the air smelled amazing and the sky was FULL of stars. You don’t really see much of them in New Jersey (especially next to route 22) but this morning was spectacular. I keep noticing that there are three stars that are connected to one another, like the necklace. Anyway, I’ll look them up later.

2. Motivation. Thank you for keeping me highly motivated to stick to my 4am waking time. The results are as follows: been to the gym 3 times, yoga 2 times, read my book, wrote in my journal, cleaned, got ready without rushing, had time to reflect. My mornings has been amazing ever since. I now actually look forward to waking up.

3. The workouts. I feel like I have more energy, my mood has improved, and, of course, I can see the muscle tone.

4. Meditation sessions at So Shim Sa Zen center. I still can’t believe I have found them. I like to go twice a week, for Buddhist service, a meditation session, and a tong-dong practice.

5. My career. I have two amazing jobs (full and part time) where I am valued and growing. Looking forward to today!

Extra credit: I am so thankful for my relationship with A. He is extraordinary amazing.

Early Morning Riser Observations

3 Sep

Good morning. It’s 4:17 AM. It’s still dark out.

I have made coffee, and plan to finish my book before sunrise.

I noticed something today. In my condominium development, there are four other early risers. I usually see their bathroom windows lit up when I wake up at 4… I even think we are developing a certain sense of camaraderie… Or at least I am. I am also curious why they are up at this hour. Are they insomniacs? Do they have a job that demands an early rise (gas station, deli, public school ;)? Do they have two jobs and one of them starts super early? Or are they like me, trying to train themselves to be early risers?…

So, these are the thoughts that run through my mind sometimes at this hour… Between four and six in the morning, there are no requests being made of you. The time is purely yours.
