Five Things to Be Grateful For

Good morning. I hope everyone who stops by today is well.

Here are my five things that I am grateful for at this moment:

1. Cool, fresh air and a sky full of stars. As I left the house at 4:30am for my morning workout, the air smelled amazing and the sky was FULL of stars. You don’t really see much of them in New Jersey (especially next to route 22) but this morning was spectacular. I keep noticing that there are three stars that are connected to one another, like the necklace. Anyway, I’ll look them up later.

2. Motivation. Thank you for keeping me highly motivated to stick to my 4am waking time. The results are as follows: been to the gym 3 times, yoga 2 times, read my book, wrote in my journal, cleaned, got ready without rushing, had time to reflect. My mornings has been amazing ever since. I now actually look forward to waking up.

3. The workouts. I feel like I have more energy, my mood has improved, and, of course, I can see the muscle tone.

4. Meditation sessions at So Shim Sa Zen center. I still can’t believe I have found them. I like to go twice a week, for Buddhist service, a meditation session, and a tong-dong practice.

5. My career. I have two amazing jobs (full and part time) where I am valued and growing. Looking forward to today!

Extra credit: I am so thankful for my relationship with A. He is extraordinary amazing.


Five (or maybe ten) things to be thankful for today…

July 31, 2013. So many things to be thankful for today:

1. Time at the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge. I love nature, and I am so glad that I am making time to visit parks and reservations this summer. (Note to self – keep it up in the fall).

2. Modern technology that allows us to communicate with speed and accuracy. Thanks for the phone that always works and available. Send an email, call mom, text my hubby – easy.

3. The unconditional love of my husband. Will always be grateful for that. I can be a complete pain in you-know-what yet he has never made me feel unloved.

4. Great Expectations and Bleak House. Mr. Dickens, you are amazing.

5. Motivation to exercise regardless of whether I am happy or sad. Today I err on the sad side but I hit the gym regardless. Proud of myself.

Let’s see if I can now get to 10 things…

6. Water – fresh, cold, and readily available. There is someone in this world that has to walk for miles to get water. I can do what I please with it – drink, bathe, wash dishes. Or wash my yoga mat. Or my sneakers. Or sprinkle a little on my cats if I’m feeling silly.

7. The pool. I think that speaks for itself 🙂

8. Challenges: the Universe is sending challenges my way so that I learn something from them. And they might not be always pleasant, I grow because of them. I always win the prize – even if that “prize” is experience.

9. Meditation – I can feel my mind calm down and stop racing… Thank you, Deepak Chopra. (His meditations are available for download for free on iTunes).

10. My overall health – so many things to be thankful for in this area… I barely wear any makeup in summer but I looked into the mirror today and my skin is glowing, eyes are clear and body feels strong and supple, thanks to all the physical activity I’ve been doing. Will try to keep it up when fall comes.

And here you have it, folks. It was easier than I thought 🙂

Today, at the Great Swamp. And although I have forgotten to bring my tire pump, I still had a good time. Decided to hike instead. What a beautiful, beautiful place the Great Swamp is… So peaceful…

What can you celebrate today?

What can you celebrate today?

It is not even eight o’clock, but the day is already fabulous. After I dropped A off at the station, I have come back home, poured myself a cup of coffee and stared out of the window. It’s cloudy, fresh, and so, so pleasant. So, the day has not even really begun for me, but what can I celebrate already?

1. The freshness of the air. After 10 straight days of unbelievable heat, it is just so amazing to breathe in that fresh, moist air… I think it smells like a mixture of rain and ocean.

2. Running water. Brushing your teeth, washing your face, taking a shower, washing dishes. Running water is a luxury that not every one has access to. So, celebrate it.

3. A company of my animals. When I walked back in the door, both of my cats were there to greet me. Although they don’t speak, I have understood the message: ” we are glad you are here.”

4. An amazing cup of coffee. And I can have two!

5. My breath. In Hinduism, breath is the most sacred thing. Prana, the breath, is what separates us from being dead. If you are still breathing, you have prana, that means everything is more than fine. You are alive. Let’s celebrate our breath.
